Lady Jacks Lose First Round Game to End Season

Hamburg, Saturday, February 11, 2006

The Warren Lady Jacks came into Hamburg, Arkansas to play the Hamburg Lions in the 8AAA District Tournament.  The previous game for the Lady Jacks was also against the Lady Lions of Hamburg, in which Warren had its closest game of the year, leading Hamburg at halftime.  Warren came into the tournament looking for an upset and their first win of the season.  Hamburg came in looking to cruise their way into the second round.

Senior leadership showed up for the Lady Jacks Saturday night as Jessica Jones and Frederika Marshall scored the first four baskets of the game for Warren.  Then the Hamburg defense stepped up and slowed Warren's attack leaving the Lady Jacks with only 10 points at the end of the first.  Warren was down 21-10 after one.

The second quarter showed signs of the game ending with a rather lop-sided score.  Warren did find something offensively, but so did Hamburg.  Senior Jessica Jones again took control of the team in the second, but was to no avail.  Hamburg was knocked down two three-pointers to help their lead.  Hamburg lead 41-24 at the half.

As the time on the game clock was ticking away in the thirds quarter, the Lady Jacks knew their time was quickly ticking away to get a win on the season.  Warren started to try and revive their offense and create points quickly, but it only led to turnover after turnover.  Hamburg quickly capitalize and increased their lead over Warren.  Several three-pointers were again knocked down in the third by Hamburg and they were up 55-34 going into the fourth.

The fourth quarter ended just about as quickly as it started.  Hamburg increased their lead enough to enforce the mercy rule on the Lady Jacks.  With time running out on their season, the Lady Jacks hopes were dampened by Hamburg's offense.  Hamburg defeated the Lady Jacks 70-39.
