    Warren vs. Ashdown

     Friday September 14th the Warren Lumberjacks took on the Ashdown Panthers at the home opener. The Lumberjacks received the opening kickoff and soon drove down the field 40 yards. The drive was cut short with a fumble and an Ashdown recovery. The powerhouse defense of the Lumberjacks held the Panthers and forced them to punt the ball away. On Warren's next drive, they marched right down the field and scored first with a 20 yard pass to #15 Basmine Jones bringing the game to 7-0. Ashdown on the next drive punted to Warren's special teams. The Lumberjack offense was unable to move the ball and the Panthers forced the Lumberjacks to punt the ball for the first time this season. #42 Cody Lambert intercepted the ball for the Lumberjacks and brought Warren's offense back on the field. The Lumberjacks then threw down the field and scored on an 80 yard pass to #6 Jarius Wright bringing the score to 14-0 Lumberjack favor. The Panthers were forced to punt on their pursuing drive. The Panthers secondary intercepted the ball on the next drive to bring the Ashdown offense back onto the field who marched right down the field only to end their drive with a missed field goal attempt. The rest of the first half was back and forth between the two teams and Ashdown ended the Lumberjacks' last drive of the half with and interception. The two teams went into the locker room with the score 14-0, Warren.

     The opening kickoff of the second half went to Ashdown who were cut short on their drive and forced to punt to the Lumberjack special teams. The Lumberjacks pushed the ball down the field a little ways and finished the drive with a 40 yard pass to #19 Chris Gragg. The field goal unit kicked the extra point bringing the game to 21-0. Ashdown scored on the pursuing drive which brought the game to 21-7. The Lumberjacks returned the favor and put together a scoring drive of their own. #33 Courtney Haskell carried the ball 40 yards for a Lumberjack touchdown and a commanding lead, 28-7. The Lumberjack defense stopped the Panthers on the next drive. #81 Greg Childs blocked the Panthers punt and brought the Lumberjack offense onto the field. The powerful line of Warren opened up the field for #10 Cody Broughton to run the ball 25 yards for yet another Warren Lumberjack touchdown. With the score 34-7, Warren kicked off to Ashdown and held the Panthers once again forcing them to punt. The Lumberjacks drive right down the field in a hurry and scored on a 4 yard run by Haskell, 40-7 Warren. #3 Anthony Davis intercepted the ball for Warren on Ashdown's next drive. Warren's offense was stopped and forced to punt the ball over to Ashdown. #7  Cree Davis recovered a fumble for Warren bringing the offense of Warren back onto the field. The Lumberjacks once again punted the ball away to the Panthers. #76 for the Lumberjacks forced and recovered a fumble from the Panthers. Warren once again punted the ball away a few plays later. Ashdown's quarterback ran the ball 50 yards for a touchdown bringing the score to 40-14. The time ran out and the game came to an end on the Lumberjacks next drive. The final score: 40-14 Warren Lumberjacks.

     The Lumberjacks when 10 for 23 on passes and scored three of their touchdowns in the air. They scored their other three on the ground and went 4 for 6 on extra points. #2 Antonio Harding had two sacks on the quarterback and both Cody Lambert and Anthony Davis had interceptions for Warren.

     The Warren Lumberjacks move to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference. They will host the Dollarway Cardnials next Friday, September 21 at James E. Hurley Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
