Warren History
Warren's economy has always thrived on the rich timber natural to the region. In the early 1900's northern lumbermen moved into the region. Moses F. Rittenhouse and James W. Embree of Chicago established the Arkansas Lumber Company. S.H. Fullerton of St. Louis established the Bradley Lumber Company and Frederick Weyerhaeuser of St. Paul, Minnesota established the Southern Lumber Company.
As the town grew from the prospering mills, so did the Warren Public School system. In 1905, Warren fielded its first football team. The great timber influence spurred the naming of the Warren athletic mascot-the Lumberjacks. The team played in a field behind St. Luke's Catholic Church on Pine Street. The selecting of school colors of orange and black was influenced by an early coach who had attended Princeton University whose colors are also orange and black. Three times in history the Lumberjack football team has gone undefeated. The first time was 1955. The next undefeated season was 2001. The 2005 team has now added their names to that famed list.
