Jacks Exterminate Redbugs

By Rob Reep

Fordyce-April 6, 2006

"For the next two days we are going to practice, practice, practice", said Wesley Cogdill after Monday night's game against the Dollarway Cardinals. Today, we know the Warren Lumberjacks did just that. They went to work. It paid off. The Jacks took down the Fordyce Redbugs on Thursday, April 6, 2006 by the score of 8-1.

Although the Jacks dominated the score board, they really got the job done in the field. Junior Bryan Church got the start on the mound. He went the distance. Church picked up the win and allowed only one run. " I had confidence today. It's easy to pitch when you know your defense is behind you.", said Church.

The Jacks put first base in the hands of Junior Matt Pace. Second base was given a new look with Sophomore Jarius Wright. Wesley Cogdill went back to his normal position at shortstop, and A.J. Avery kept third base under control. The outfield was fortified by Senior Michael Green in left, Dusty Hardin in center, and Dennen Cuthbertson in right. Senior Rob Reep garrisoned the plate.

The first inning went fast and scoreless for both teams. In the second, Junior Bryan Church hit a solo shot over the left field fence. Church commented, " I just felt good at the plate. I was also seeing the ball really well tonight."

Church continued to pitch magnificently. Later in the game, the Jacks would allow one run on a busted pick of play with a Redbug on third. The Jacks did get out of some jams with some crunch time plays. " There were some big plays made tonight. One that sticks out in my mind was the double play that Wesley and I hooked up on. Matt gave us a good stretch at first for the out.", said church.

The Jacks move to 5-0 in conference play with that win. " I think we'll take Dumas on Monday. We're playing good baseball right now", said church.

The Jacks will face the Sheridan Yellowjackets on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. Come out and support your Jacks.
