Jacks Advance To Semi-Finals of Dual State After OT Win
Thursday, January 26, 2006
Junction City, Arkansas routinely holds one of the finest basketball tournaments in Arkansas. Teams from Louisiana and Arkansas converge on the border city each year for the Dual State Tournament. Last season, the Warren Lumberjack basketball squad took home the title of Dual State Champions. They seem to be well on their way this year, too.
A battle with the Trojans of Parkers Chapel High School opened up tournament play for the 'Jacks. Warren took care of business and cruised to a 52-39 victory. The win put them in position to face a familiar foe, and a quality one at that.
Lafayette County served as the Lumberjack's opposition in the second round. Warren and Lafayette County meet up earlier in the year at the Fouke Classic. The two teams battled back and forth before Warren was finally able to put a third quarter deficit behind them to take the lead for good. The see-saw ballgame ended with Warren winning 57-54.
From tip-off, Warren knew this second round match up would be eerily similar to the two teams first meeting. The 'Jacks and Cougars were back and forth all night as they were trying to fight for a spot in the semifinals of the tournament. At the end of regulation, both programs were deadlocked. Overtime saw both teams give maximum effort. However, Warren's attempt was worth two more points. The 'Jacks held off the Cougars 66-64. The warren win knocked Lafayette County out of the tournament and moved the Lumberjacks into the semifinals to meet the Emerson vs. Doyline winner.
