Jacks Take Lions In O.T. Battle

Warren, Arkansas, February 9, 2006

Needing a win Thursday night the Warren Lumberjacks saw the Hamburg Lions Prowl into town. The night would start slow but not disappointed the fans in the end. The final gave the Jacks a victory in overtime by the score of 56-54.

The first quarter looked at a slow start by the Lumberjacks. With 5:26 remaining in the quarter the Jacks got on the board . Lack of rebounding by the home team would prove to be costly  later on. However, the quarter ended with the Lumberjacks on top 10-9.

Hamburg came out strong in the second. With 5:15 remaining in the half senior A.J. Avery would silence the visiting crowd with a right hand slam. It seemed that the Jacks were rather sluggish and out of sink in the first half, and were not able to get any thing to fall.

The Jacks looked stronger and faster in the third. Several bursts of life helped the Jacks come back from their half-time deficit. A last second shot by senior Chanc Davis made it 31-30 Hamburg at the end of the third.

The fourth quarter would proved to be worth the crowd's four dollars. Wright hit two free throws to give the Jacks a non permanent lead with 5:32 left in regulation. A.J. Avery hit a free throw with 15 seconds left to give us the end of regulation score of 44-42 Jacks. Many things can happen in 15 seconds, and they did. Hamburg was able to scrape an easy basket inside to send the game into overtime.

Overtime saw ten points scored by both teams with 15 seconds left. A.J. Avery again came up big, hitting two bonus free throws to give us the final score of 56-54.

District Tournament starts Saturday February 11, 2006. Lumberjacks first district game to be announced soon.
