Lady Jacks Step Up At Crunch Time

By Rob Reep

Warren, Arkansas-Thursday, March 30, 2006

Pitching is everything. On Thursday, March 30, 2006 the Warren Lady Jack Softball team had the pitching to beat Strong/Huttig. The only question was could their bats come through. The Lady Jacks stepped up to the plate and got the job done. They won by the score of 2-1.

A magnificent job of pitching was done on both sides. Through almost six innings the game was scoreless. In the top of the sixth Strong/Huttig was able to scratch out a run to make it 1-0. However, the Lady Jacks answered in the bottom of the inning to make it 1-1.

Going into the seventh it was tied at 1. Just when you thought the excitement and tension couldn't get any higher, the tempo was bumped up a notch. The Lady Jacks held Strong/Huttig scoreless in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the inning the Lady Jacks were able to get the bases loaded. Whitney Howard drew a walk. Christine Miller bunted for a base hit. Whitney Howard advanced on the bunt. Emily Burt bunted for another base hit which loaded the bases. Ashley Lawrence then flied out to second base. Whitney Howard tagged up and scored on the play to leave the Jacks with a 2-1 victory.

The Lady Jacks will face the Dollarway Cardinals on Monday, April 3, 2006 at 4:00 p.m.
