Lumberjacks Lose A Close One
Tuesday, January 17, 2006
Tuesday night's game between the Dollarway Cardinals and the Warren Lumberjacks was an important one. This was a huge conference game between these two teams, considering that a Warren win would give both teams a tying conference record as the regular season winds down. This game would prove to be a match-up between the two best teams in the conference so far, as it went down to the wire.
In the first quarter the Cardinals jumped on the Lumberjacks early as they out-scored Warren 16-7. The turnovers were one of the several things that hurt the 'Jacks in the first quarter as they would have 16 in the entire game.
The second quarter momentum went to Warren as they overcome adversity and used a 9-0 run late in the second quarter, along with several Cardinal turnovers, to grab the lead at half 29-26.
The third showed signs of offense from both teams as they both looked incredible. Both defenses had trouble stopping the others offense, but eventually starting creating turnovers again.
In the fourth quarter both teams went to the wire. With 1:30 left in the game Dollarway held a 59-56 lead, but turned the ball over. In the end Warren could not overcome their mistakes and barely lost 61-60.
Dollarway shot 56 percent from the field, while Warren shot 48 percent. Warren finished the game 9 for 16 from the free-throw line compared to Dollarway's 10 for 16. This loss gave Warren a 7-3 record in conference play and kept Dollarway in first place with a 8-1 record. Warren will take on Parkers Chapel in the Dual State Tournament on Tuesday, January 24, 2006.
