O.T. Loss To Lions Knocks Out Lumberjacks in District

Hamburg, Arkansas, February 17, 2006

The 8AAA District Tournament wasn't very kind to the Warren Lumberjacks Friday February 17, 2006. The Jacks would see the night end with a heartbreaking 61-55 loss to the Hamburg Lions. This was an eerie outcome. Just a week earlier the Jacks beat Hamburg in an overtime thriller in Warren.

During the second the Jacks would extend their lead to 10. The score was 25-15 Warren. Hamburg's Curtis and Williams had a combined six points to cut Warren's lead to 25-21. The board read 25-21 at the end of the half.

Superb defense by Hamburg held the Lumbermen to only seven points in the third. With 2:12 remaining in the quarter the Lions tied it at 32.

The fourth seemed to be firmly in the hands of Warren. The Jacks held a seven point lead halfway through the quarter. Hamburg tied the score at 43 with 1:03 left in the game. Warren would once again take the lead by two. However, Hamburg hit an inside basket to give us the end of regulation score of 47-47.

Both teams stuck together in the overtime period. With one minute on the clock Hamburg scored six points while the Jacks could only conjure up four. The hard fought game ended giving the Lions a 61-55 victory.

A.J. Avery led the Lumberjacks with 18 and Greg Childs ended the night with 15.

The Lumberjacks were suppose to play the Fordyce Redbugs in the consolation game of the 8AAA District Tournament on Monday, February 20, 2006.  Due to bad weather Fordyce was unable to travel to Hamburg for the match-up, therefore Warren was given the third seed in Regionals while Fordyce was given the fourth seed.

www.whsathletics.org wishes the Warren Lumberjacks the best of luck against Ashdown on Thursday February 23, 2006. The game starts at 8:30.
