Friday, January 6th, 2006-Warren, Arkansas
Friday, January 6th proved to be a good night for the Warren basketball girls. The Jr. Lady Jacks caught fire in the night's opener against the Lake Village Beavers and cruised to their 2nd win, both 8AAA victories. The final of the Jr. girls game was 39-18. #22 Whitney Howard, #23 Shanique Rhodes, #14 Tawanta Marshall, #12 Christine Jackson, and #34 Kawanta Marshall drew starting nods in the ballgame. Freshman #35 Shakaila Edwards dropped 14 points for the Jr. Lady Jacks. Those 14 lead the team. Shanique Rhodes scored 8 points, #21 Santina Young had 4, Christine Jackson and Tawanta Marshall both had 3 points each. #31 Terneshia Jordan scored 2 points in the effort. Freshman Brandi Harvey and Kawanta Marshall both had a point each after making 1/2 free throws on the night. The Jr. Lady Jack's performance set the tone for the night.
The Warren Sr. girls entered the Lake Village contest off of an embarrassing 47-2 loss to Star City. That added fuel to their fire as they battled to a tough 47-42 loss. The Lady Jacks used a strong 4th quarter to nearly erase a 33-21 3rd period deficit, yet ran out of time in their comeback bid. The Lady Jacks, playing with only 6 available ladies, started #12 Jessica Jones, #24 Kenisha Clary, #31 Kali Wagnon, # 22 Frederika Marshall, and #34 Heather Kee. Sr. Jessica Jones lead all Lady Jack scorers with 21 points. Frederika Marshall scored 12 of her own, continuing the great play she's shown throughout her senior season. Kenisha Clary dropped 6 points, including a drained 3-pointer. Heather Kee scored 3 points and Kali Wagnon 2 to round out the Lady Jacks scoring.
The Lady Jacks and Jr. Lady Jacks will take the floor tonight, January 10th, against the Hamburg Lions in Hamburg. Tip-off will be at 5:30 as the Jr. Lady Jacks fight for their 3rd 8AAA win of the season. Following the Jr. girls completion, Coach Hatley and the Sr. girls will take the floor hoping to improve off of Friday's quality performance. The Sr. boys will then take the floor trying to run their winning streak to 10 games.
