Warren vs. White Hall

Pre-Game Coverage

Friday, March 3, 2006

It's opening day for the Warren Lumberjacks. Today they will jump right into their regular season schedule with a game against White Hall.

As defending AAA State Champions, the Jacks have high expectations. However, they have several gapes to fill. Pitching was a major part of their success last season. The Jacks have some potential aces this year on the mound to. Junior Matt Pace will have to come up big this year on the hill and at the plate. Senior Nick Holloway will probably find himself on the mound a time or two. Other pitchers for the Jacks will include Bryan Church, John Roper, and Daniel Robinson.

The defensive lineup will not be known until today. However, it will most likely change. With the basketball team losing on Wednesday, several kids had their first practice yesterday. These players include A.J. Avery, Moorehead Jordan, Jarius Wright, Jarren Jefferson, and Dennen Cuthbertson.

Monday night, the team took on the old-timers in the annual Alumni game. One place the Jacks have room for improvement is at the plate. They gathered five hits on the night and only one of those got out of the infield.

This afternoon should be a real test for the Lumberjacks. We should get a pretty good idea what they are in store for this season.

Today's game starts at 4:00 p.m. in White Hall. www.whsathletics.org wishes the Lumberjacks luck in their opening game.
